Henley Royal Regatta kicks off tomorrow, and the Tuesday will feature a lot of men's racing to start the week between the booms, largely to start working through the events with the most crews in the main draw. The women's racing, for the most part, gets started later in the week, and there will be a ton: this is the biggest women's entry at Henley to date, and includes 8 NCAA D1 teams and two lightweight squads.
If you missed it live on Youtube, you can see the whole draw here and take a look at the full list of entries here--but if you want to just cut to the list of the US teams that made the trip this year, we've included one below.
The PE Cup for Junior Men's 8s and the Temple Cup for University Student 8s will see the most US crews racing on Tuesday. Since each of those events has 32 crews in the Draw to work through, the action starts right away. The Junior Quads also get going on Day 1: the Fawley for Junior Men and the Diamond Jubilee for Junior Women, but in that event, the two US Crews--Nereid and Youth Nationals champ Oregon Rowing Unlimited--are selected and have byes.
Interestingly, all eight of the IRA and ACRA men's teams here racing eights will do so in the Temple Cup event. None entered the Ladies Plate this year, which will run without an American university contender for the first time in while, COVID-impacted years aside.
Tuesday will also see the debut of the junior clubs in the PE event, after the well-publicized--and oft-mentioned in the UK press this week--rule change that opened the formerly all schoolboy event to club crews which can draw athletes from more than one school. You can read our explanation of the rule change here, but it will definitely be the first time down this Henley track for the boys from the Marin and Greenwich club teams, and long-time competitor Green Lake will finally get to race its junior boys eight against other U19s, instead of in the Thames event for adult club eights.
How to Watch
Henley will of course be running its full-on Youtube coverage, which will include races live, and then daily highlights posted later each day.
Here is a link to Tuesday's Time Table of Racing, so you can see what's on and when, and the fastest results stream is the @henleyresults Twitter Feed.
What to Watch
For Tuesday, these are the races we are keeping an eye on, all of which can be found on Youtube here during the live stream and here as replays later in the day.
4:15am EDT - Deerfield vs Latymer Upper in PE Cup (JM8+)
5:15am EDT - Princeton 'A' vs Durham Univ in Temple (College M8+)
5:40am EDT - Univ of London vs Syracuse in Temple (College M8+)
10:30am EDT - Radley vs St. Joe's Prep in PE Cup (JM8+)
And then there is a nice block of races around midday back in the states, if you can take a long lunch:
12:40pm EDT Nereus 'B' vs Washington in Temple (College M8+)
12:45pm EDT Eton vs Greenwich Crew in PE Cup (JM8+)
1:10pm EDT Nottingham vs Harvard in Temple (College M8+)
And, of course, that last one is a re-meeting of sorts: Nottingham and Harvard rowed--and re-rowed--a very famous Ladies Plate final back in 1989. A first round meeting between the two in the Temple might not have quite the same buzz, but will be a cracking race near the end of Tuesday.

Notes from the Course
Best Water of the Week? - apparently can be easy to find: if you get up way before every crew--and if you remembered to bring your paddleboard all the way from Canada--you can have the place to yourself:
